Helping Children in the Community

Hei!

At the Scandinavian Crayon Company, we’ve always believed in the transformative power of art, especially during challenging times. This belief was beautifully reinforced when we received a message from Charity Bikers MC in Norway, an organisation dedicated to combating violence against women and girls. Over the years, they’ve worked tirelessly with organisations like Fokus Norge and Sanitetskvinnene to support individual women in need.

Shifting Focus: From Women to Children

Recently, Charity Bikers MC shared their experiences with us and expressed a need for a fresh perspective on addressing societal challenges. They decided to shift their focus towards children – specifically, those accompanying their caretakers to crisis centers or admitted to hospitals due to illness, injury, or other reasons.

Their insight was enlightening. In crisis situations, children often find themselves with electronic devices or limited recreational activities like PCs, movies, or gaming platforms. While these activities offer some form of entertainment, Charity Bikers MC believed they didn’t provide the essential freedom needed for children to begin the healing and coping journey after experiencing crises or facing serious illnesses.

The Power of Simple Tools

With support from the Elvia Fund, Charity Bikers MC had a simple yet meaningful idea – to provide crayons to these children. These crayons wouldn’t just be for colouring, they would serve as tools of comfort and expression. Children admitted to hospitals often face stressful situations, and crayons can be a therapeutic way for them to ease their minds and emotions. Drawing and colouring offer a calming and creative outlet, helping children navigate through challenging times. We hoped that drawing could be a way for young minds to find solace during difficult moments.

Recognising Emotional Needs

This initiative was about recognising the emotional needs of these young individuals. In times of crisis or illness, when their world feels overwhelming and uncertain, these crayons offer a sense of control, a tool to bring their imagination to life and a gentle alternative to the noise of the digital world.

Our Commitment to Art Therapy

At the Scandinavian Crayon Company, we are committed to the therapeutic benefits of drawing, especially during challenging times. This collaboration served as a reminder of the incredible therapeutic power that art and creativity hold.

Looking back on this collaboration, we are thankful for the opportunity to be part of something meaningful. It serves as a reminder that when individuals and organisations come together with a shared purpose, they can create ripples of positive change. We are grateful to Charity Bikers MC and the Elvia Fund for inviting us to be a part of their journey, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to bring more colour and hope to the lives of those who need it.

Art has the power to heal and comfort, especially for children in crisis. We’re proud to be part of this initiative and to see the positive impact of something as simple as a crayon.
